Hey all,

I am on the board of a new Triangle non-profit organization called Triangle Spokes Group.  This year, we're planning to distribute 300 new bicycles and helmets to less fortunate Triangle children during the holiday season.  But we need your help.

Please see below for more information on this great cause.  You can also visit our website and make a tax deductible donation at: www.trianglespokesgroup.com

The Triangle chapter of The Spokes Group was founded last year by Ashley Wilson and Jenn Nowalk, modeled after the Charlotte charity of the same name.  The Spokes Group was originally created in 1994 by two Charlotte businessmen who realized the difference that could be made by raising money to purchase brand new bicycles for children during the holiday season.  The first year, 17 bicycles were purchased and a tradition was born.  To date, the organization has raised nearly one million dollars, resulting in the donation of over 16,000 new bicycles.  The cost of each new bike plus a helmet averages $70.

In it’s inaugural year, the Triangle Spokes Group donated 200 new bicycles and helmets to less fortunate children throughout the Triangle and far exceeded it’s fundraising goal, raising nearly $24,000. (Bikes need to be ordered well in advance, so the additional money rolls over to 2008).  The group has partnered with The Salvation Army of Wake County to raise awareness and assist with distribution of the bikes.

“We knew Triangle residents would support this great cause, but we were overwhelmed by the incredible generosity and support we received in our first year,” said Ashley Wilson, Triangle Spokes Group founder. “We received donations from people of all ages, and it’s amazing to see what a difference our collective efforts can make to children in our community.  We look forward to bringing smiles to the faces of 300 more children this holiday season.”

The Triangle Spokes Group is currently planning fundraising events and establishing corporate partnerships.  For more information or to make a tax deductible donation, please visit www.trianglespokesgroup.com.  100 percent of the money donated to the Triangle Spokes Group goes directly towards the purchase of a bicycle and helmet.  All administrative fees and overhead costs are covered by The Spokes Group on a personal basis.
